Rico Verhoeven (born April 10, 1989) is a Dutch kickboxer world champion in the heavyweight category of the Glory World Series, international kickboxing promotion.


Rico Verhoeven was born in Bergen op Zoom, the Netherlands. He started learning martial arts at the age of five, starting with kyokushin (Japanese martial art). He was trained by his father, who was a black belt in karate. After switching to kickboxing, Rico Verhoeven started training at the age of seven and started competing against adults at the age of 16, due to his large size.

Verhoeven has participated in several competitions: K-1, It’s Showtime and Superkombat. Rico Verhoeven is currently [When?] Ranked # 1 in the heavyweight world by various promotions or organizations like LiverKick.com, Combat Pres and Glory.


The two kickboxers, the best in the world alongside Badr Hari, had previously faced each other in 2011 and 2017. The Moroccan won the first match while the Dutchman won the second.

The title fight between Rico Verhoeven and Jamal Ben Saddik on January 30 is called off. The Moroccan-born kickboxer injured his back and announced he was retiring from the bout which had been named “The King vs The Goliath” by Glory.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce that my fight of January 30 is called off. Due to a serious back injury, my medical team informed me that the risk of permanent damage to health is too high. Right now I feel extremely disappointed and sad but I am determined to come back even stronger. Yesterday, I already started my first treatment at the hospital. Ben Saddik will be unavailable for several months, according to the press release sent by the promotion. Meanwhile, Verhoeven will defend his heavyweight title in the GLORY 77 main event against another opponent, whose name is expected to be announced shortly.

Saddik first won the duel against Verhoven in 2011. Six years later, in 2017, the Dutchman had his revenge. Ben Saddik had spat in Verhoeven’s face during the staredown. Verhoeven later called Ben Saddik a “bad person”.
