Lindsay Lohan [ˈlɪndzi ˈloʊən], born July 2, 1986 in New York City, is an American actress and singer.
She began her acting career very young and became known to the general public thanks to several Walt Disney Pictures productions: the comedy-drama À nous quatre (1998), the fantasy comedy Freaky Friday: In my mother’s skin (2003) , the musical The Diary of a Future Star (2004) and the action comedy The Ladybug Returns (2005).
She then rose to critical recognition with the high school comedy Lolita Despite Me, produced by Paramount Pictures. But from the second half of the 2000s, his career was slowed down by several flops but also escapades widely relayed by the press people.
Youth and revelation at Disney
The eldest of four children, Lindsay Dee Lohan was born into a family of Italian-Irish New York artists. Her mother, Dina, danced with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall before appearing in soap operas; his father, Michael Lohan, rose to prominence in the soap opera As the World Turns. She has two brothers, Michael and Dakota, and a sister, Ali Lohan who is also an actress.
She started her career very early, turning in commercials from the age of three. Then in 1996, at the age of 10, she joined the cast of the soap opera Another World for four episodes. This is his first screen appearance. And during the summer of 1998, she played twins in the romantic comedy À nous quatre, directed by Nancy Meyers. The film received good reviews and enjoyed great success in theaters. She signs a contract with the studio producing the film, Walt Disney Pictures for three other feature films.
In 2000, she played the tomboys in the fantasy TV movie Life Size, where her doll takes on human form (played by model Tyra Banks), and in 2002, she played the aspiring detective in the TV movie Operation Walker. Finally, in 2003, the comedy Freaky Friday: In the skin of my mother, by Mark Waters, came out in the cinema. She exchanges bodies there with her mother, played by Jamie Lee Curtis. The film received excellent reviews and established itself as the biggest success of his young career.
The year 2004 confirmed her in two projects, at the age of 17: she was first on the bill in the musical The Intimate Diary of a Future Star, where she played a teenage New Yorker who was dream actress on Broadway, but whose family moved to the provinces. The film receives this time very low reviews, and the correct box office. On the other hand, his first foray outside the Disney studios, the comedy Lolita despite me, directed by Mark Waters, is a critical and commercial success. The actress is emerging as a young rising star in Hollywood, facing other young premieres: Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried. The scenario imagined by Tina Fey tells the story of a teenager who grew up in the four corners of the world, brought to have to integrate into a Californian high school. There she is confronted with an environment much more violent and dangerous than the jungle.
As part of the promotion of the film, screenwriter Tina Fey invited him to the hit TV show Saturday Night Live. In one of the sketches parodying the successful Harry Potter saga, she plays a busty Hermione2. The show is a success.
At the same time, she signed a contract with Casablanca Records to produce several music albums. After a long gestation, the Speak album was released in 2004. Reviews are dire but sales are excellent, confirming the popularity of the young star with an audience of teenagers. She delivered a second in December 2005, titled A Little More Personal (RAW), which sold less well than her first album and was no longer in the “Top 40” two weeks after its release. This album mainly accompanies a change of image from wise Disney heroine to independent young woman.
Thus, her return to Disney studios in 2005 with the action comedy The Ladybug Returns, by Angela Robinson, sees her playing a sexy young pilot. Reviews are mixed, but the box office positive. Filming the film is proving difficult, due to her private relationship with actor Wilmer Valderrama. In 2004, she appeared in an episode of the actor’s hit sitcom, That ’70s Show. His personal setbacks began during this period, widely reported by the American tabloid press.
As part of the promotion of the film, she returns as a guest on Saturday Night Live. This time, one of the sketches sees her emulating pop singer Jessica Simpson.
In 2006, she unveiled three feature films, far from Disney studios. She is first the poster for the romantic comedy Lucky Girl, by Donald Petrie. She plays a particularly lucky young New Yorker who falls in love with a badass portrayed by the seductive Chris Pine. She is a third guest on Saturday Night Live. But this time around, the film’s reviews are poor, and the box office grossed just over $ 38 million in worldwide revenue3.
She also evolves in a more adult and independent cinema: she is part of the choral cast of the dramatic comedy The Last Show, by Robert Altman, which retraces the last show of the radio musical program A Prairie Home Companion; and Bobby, by Emilio Estevez, recounting the hours before Robert Kennedy’s assassination.
In 2007, she ventured into a darker, still independent cinema. She gives the answer to Jared Leto, head of the thriller Chapter 27, telling the story of John Lennon’s assassin. She is also the headliner of the psychological thriller I Know Who Killed Me. The film was a resounding critical and commercial flop, in a year marked by revelations regarding a dissolute personal life. That same year, Garry Marshall’s comedy-drama Mother-Daughter, Instructions for Use, was released, co-starring with acclaimed and award-winning Felicity Huffman and Jane Fonda. The film barely repays its budget and is exhausted by critics.
She was then scheduled to play the role of Nancy Pitman in the independent film Manson Girls, a film devoted to Charles Manson and his followers, but she withdrew from the project.
In 2008, the actress withdrew from another project: Ye Olde Times later renamed All’s Faire in Love, a film on the Renaissance with actor-humorist Jack Black.

In May 2008, the new video for N * E * R * D was released with guest star Lindsay Lohan and her ex-girlfriend DJ Samantha Ronson. The title of the song, Everyone nose, is a clear allusion to the absorption of cocaine through the nose. In this clip, we only see her for a few seconds negotiating to enter a nightclub. On May 27, 2008, she also announced the release of her new single Bossy, taken from her future album, the release date of which remains unknown.
The same month, she surprises by landing a recurring role in the hit series Ugly Betty. But the production ends its contract with the actress only four episodes instead of the six planned, due to arguments with lead actress America Ferrera 10.11. The same year, she won the “Razzie Award” for the worst actress of the year for her performance in the film I Know Who Killed Me (film, which with Lindsay Lohan’s Razzie will receive 8 “awards” in total, including the Razzie Award for Worst Film of the Year) by Chris Silverston (Razzie Award for Worst Director).
In June 2008, Lindsay began filming a comedy intended to mark her comeback, titled Knocked Up But Not Too 13,14. The feature film finally becomes a TV movie broadcast in July 2009 on ABC Family. (In France, the DVD was released on November 10, 200915 and was broadcast for the first time on M6 on Tuesday August 31, 2010 at 1:45 p.m.).
Fashion and return attempts (2008-2011)
The actress then tries to diversify: she takes her first steps in the fashion world by agreeing to become the face of the Italian brand Miu Miu (subsidiary of Prada). In 2008, she launched her own line of leggings, 6126 in reference to the birth of her idol Marilyn Monroe born on June 1, 1926.

They both come out on the podium during the brand’s parade which took place on Sunday October 4 at the Carrousel du Louvre. Lindsay Lohan has not had the expected success with her collection for Ungaro. The stylist then declared to the press that he was “very angry with her” on November 17, 200921. She was very friends with the actress of the film She’s the Man, Amanda Bynes.
