New Judge Judy series premieres November 1, with granddaughter joining the show
Judge Judy Sheindlin returns to the courtroom television on November 1 with her granddaughter.
She announced on Thursday the start date and name of her new show, “Judy Justice,” which will be available weekdays on the little-known IMDb TV, a free streaming service offered by Amazon.
Sheindlin, 78, moved into the new show when his syndication deal with CBS Media Ventures ended with some acrimony after 25 years. For more than a decade, “Judge Judy” was syndicated’s most popular show with New Yorker gossip arbitrating small claims cases.
CBS quickly made a deal to keep reruns of “Judge Judy” on the air.
WHAT IS THE NET WORTH OF JUDGE JUDY?
Sheindlin will be joined on “Judy Justice” by a new TV bailiff and stenographer. Sarah Rose, legal assistant and granddaughter of Sheindlin, will be a legal analyst.
“She’s smart, sassy and opinionated,” her grandmother said. “Who knows where she got those lines from? ”
Judge Judy moved to IMBb TV with her new show “Judy Justice”.
Filming for the former “Judge Judy” ended after CBS bought the old episodes of the show from Sheindlin. This allowed CBS to continue selling the broadcast rights in the syndication market without having to pay it to make new episodes. Sheindlin was widely regarded as the highest-paid television star in the country.
Sheindlin, a former New York judge, was also reportedly unhappy with CBS for giving priority slots to Drew Barrymore’s new show at the expense of “Hot Bench,” another court show created by Sheindlin, according to the Wall Street Journal. .
JUDGE JUDY SHEINDLIN HAS A NEW HEARING SHOW: ‘OVER THE MOON’
“We had a beautiful wedding,” Sheindlin told The Journal earlier this year. “It will be a divorce between Bill and Melinda Gates. ”
Two of her longtime producers, Randy Douthit and Amy Freisleben, will join her in “Judy Justice”.
Viewers of “Judge Judy” have been conditioned over the years to see reruns, said Bill Carroll, a veteran syndication market analyst. Some stations would broadcast back-to-back episodes, a new one and a rerun, he said.
The show’s look and format has remained so consistent over the years that for many viewers it is timeless, Carroll said.
“If you were to tell most viewers that these aren’t new shows, they’d be like, ‘Oh, really?’ “, did he declare. They are almost certain to overtake “Judy Justice” in terms of audience although, to be fair, streaming audiences are smaller than most TV shows, he said.
CBS said the number of stations showing the reruns was “about the same” as when new episodes were provided.
Nonetheless, the value of “Judy Justice” to IMDb TV will be in attracting new viewers to the service, where they can be exposed to other offerings.
“For them it can only be good,” Carroll said. “For her, it allows her to do what she loves to do. ”

Judge Judy Bailiff Petri Hawkins breaks silence after being deported after 25 years
When Amazon’s IMDb TV released the first trailer for Judy Sheindlin’s new Judy Justice series, fans were shocked to see that she had a new bailiff, Kevin Rasco. Throughout Judge Judy’s tenure, Petri Hawkins Byrd was Sheindlin’s bailiff, so many expected him to return. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Byrd revealed that Sheindlin didn’t even ask him to join the new series.
Byrd said he was completely excluded from talks for Judy Justice, which will debut on IMDb TV on November 1. He wasn’t even aware of Sheindlin’s plans to start a new audience show until she announced it on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in March 2020 When filming began on the final season of Judge Judy , Byrd never had the opportunity to approach the series with Sheindlin as she filmed remotely from New York while he and everyone else was working in Los Angeles.
“I guess if you had to do something else you were at least going to ask me if I wanted to have the opportunity to audition for the role,” Byrd told Entertainment Weekly on Friday. After the production of Judge Judy ended in April, Byrd turned his full attention to his wife, Judge Judy producer Makita Bond-Byrd, who was due to undergo brain surgery. Fortunately, doctors successfully removed 95% of Bond-Byrd’s tumor.
“I didn’t have time to think or ask questions about Judy Justice,” Byrd explained. “It wasn’t until July that I called the judge and asked him, ‘Hey, do I have to look for something else or am I included in the Judy Justice project?’ Sheindlin told Byrd that he had not been asked to join the cast of Judy Justice. He didn’t ask her why, but she blamed the budget. “I didn’t ask why, it’s his choice. But she informed me that basically I was seen as the new bailiff for her new show, ”Byrd told EW.
“My salary would have been too high. I was curious: how would she know? She didn’t ask me. She didn’t give me the opportunity to take a lower salary. Byrd said his wife was approached to work on Judy Justice, but had to turn down the project because of her health.
His call with Sheindlin “ended quite nicely,” Byrd said, adding that he wasn’t sure she understood how “confused and dismayed” he was at not having the chance to join his newcomer. project after working with her for 25 years. Byrd told EW he was humbled by fans’ reaction to his absence from Judy Justice. He is now focused on finding his next job, following voiceover work and appearing on The Bold and the Beautiful.
“I’m like I’m doing something wrong or offending you or shaming the show, or if I’m involved in a lot of scandals over the 25 years we’ve been together, I could understand why you didn’t want to annoy you in the end, ”Byrd told EW. “This is how it went. I just know that God has something else for me. ”
As for Sheindlin, she praised Byrd through a spokesperson, but noted that Judy Justice is supposed to have a different feeling than Judge Judy. “Byrd is great and we’ve had a great 25 year race. It’s a whole new program with a whole new cast and exciting energy, ”said Sheindlin spokesperson. In addition to Rasco, Judy Justice also introduces Sheindlin’s granddaughter, Sarah Rose, as courtroom clerk and stenographer, Whitney Kumar.
