Jenna Mourey (born September 15, 1986), better known by her pseudonym Jenna Marbles, is a vlogger and actress on the YouTube site. With over 19 million subscribers, it is the second most popular YouTube channel for women globally, behind Mexican Yuya (YouTuber).

Personal life

Jenna Mourey was born and raised in Rochester, New York, where she graduated from Brighton High School in 2004. She then studied at Suffolk University where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. . She then went to Boston University where she did her Masters in Education.

Jenna Marbles started her career writing for sports site StoolLaLa1.

Career on Youtube

Her famous video “How To Trick People Into Thinking You’re Good Looking” had over 5.3 million views in its first week on air. She was commented on in an article in The New York Times and on ABC News about her video titled “How To Avoid Talking To People You Don’t Want To Talk To” do not want to speak) where she declares: “I’m sick and tired of guys thinking that just because I showed up at a club or a dance or a bar, that I want to have their genitalia touching my backside” (J’en I’m tired of guys who think that just because I’m going out to a club, a bar, or going to dance, it’s because I want them to rub their genitals against my back). This video had approximately 69 million views as of April 2020.

On June 26, 2020, Jenna posted an eleven-minute video announcing her departure from Youtube. She apologized for comments made and actions she had shown in old videos deemed problematic by part of the public2.

Jenna Marbles’ channel still has, as of October 2, 2020, more than 20 million subscribers and more than a billion and a half views of its videos.

Jenna Marbles launched in July 2013 a brand of dog toys named Kermie Worm & Mr. Marbles after two of her three dogs4.

The young woman was recently criticized for having caricatured the singer Nicki Minaj in 2012, by making up her face.
Jenna Marbles’s 20 million subscribers to YouTube will now have to do without her videos. In a sequence posted online on June 25, the makeup advice specialist announces her decision to leave the platform, after having been strongly criticized because of parody videos published almost ten years ago.

At the start of her channel, created in early 2010, she notably shared a parody of singer Nicki Minaj, in which she had made up herself for a darker complexion. A practice that Americans have dubbed “blackface” and considered racist.

“At the moment, I can’t exist on this channel anymore. I think I’ll just move on for now. I don’t know how long it will last. I just want to make sure that what I’m offering to the world doesn’t hurt anyone. So I have to stop this channel, temporarily or permanently ”explains Jenna Marbles.
The vlogger wanted to apologize to those she may have shocked.

“I feel like we are in a time where we are letting go of all that is toxic. […] It was not my intention to do a ‘blackface’. I want to tell you how sorry I am after I offended you by posting this video […] and it was never my will. It’s not correct. It is shameful. It’s horrible. I wish it weren’t part of my past, ”she adds.
The YouTuber also apologized for a parody song caricaturing Asians. An “inexcusable” fault in his eyes. All this content, published between 2011 and 2012, has since been deleted.

As of today, Jenna Marbles’s apology video has racked up 3.5 million views and nearly 150,000 comments. The message seems to be well received by Internet users, with more than 500,000 approvals, against 8,500 negative opinions.
