Gorka Márquez (Bilbao, September 4, 1990) is a Spanish ballroom dancer and choreographer, best known for participating as a professional dancer in the BBC One channel’s Strictly Come Dancing. He has also appeared in the live dance show , Burn the Floor.
Márquez began dancing at the age of 12, representing Spain in the 2010 Latin Dance World Championship and reaching the 2012 semifinals.
Strictly Come Dancing
In 2016, Márquez became a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing from the series 14,4 5 where he had as a couple the EastEnders actress, Tameka Empson; they were eliminated in the third week of competition and finished in fourteenth place. Marquez also danced with Anastacia in week five, due to Brendan Cole being too ill to dance. For series 15 he was a partner of singer-songwriter and actress Alexandra Burke, 6 7 they reached the final and finished in second place, behind winners Joe McFadden and Katya Jones.8 With Burke, Márquez holds the record of achieve the most tens in a single series, for a total of 32.9
For series 16 he was paired with philanthropist and television host Katie Piper, 10 being the third couple to be eliminated and placing thirteenth.
In September 2018, Márquez announced that he would be appearing on Donahey’s 2019 Dancing with The Stars Weekends.
He is currently dating actress Gemma Atkinson, on February 1, 2019 Gemma announced through her Instagram that they were expecting their first baby together.13 On July 4, 2019, the couple welcomed Mia Louise Márquez.1
