Emma Portner was born on November 26, 1994. She began dancing at Leeming DanceWorks in Ottawa before doing summer workshops with the National Ballet of Canada1. While in Ottawa, she also followed Canterbury High School’s specialized arts program in their dance stream. At 16, she left Ottawa (Ontario) for New York City to attend Ailey School2,3,4.
She creates the choreography for Bat Out of Hell The Musical by Jim Steinman5,6. In 2015, she also choreographed and appeared in Justin Bieber’s music video for his song Life is Worth Living6. Then she creates the choreography for Justin Bieber’s world tour7,4. She then works with other artists, while presenting contemporary dance creations in different places.
She publicly announces her marriage to actor Elliot Page (then known as Ellen Page) on January 3, 20188,9. They had previously produced several choreographic works together.
She founded a dance company in New York called Emma Portner and Artists, and also taught at the Broadway Dance Center.
