Ellie Goulding, born December 30, 1986 in Hereford, Herefordshire, is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist.
She rose to fame after winning the 2010 BRIT Critics Choice Award on the BBC in 2010. After signing with Polydor Records in 2009, Ellie released her first studio album, Lights, in 2010. Elena Jane Goulding was born in Hereford, in the west of England. Her parents are Arthur and Tracey Goulding (née Clark) and Ellie is the second of four children (including an older brother and two younger sisters). She studied at Lady Hawkins School in Kingston, Herefordshire and Hereford Sixth Form College, then at the University of Kent, where she was offered a gap year to continue her career.
Ellie Goulding began playing the clarinet and guitar, and writing her own pop music at the age of nine. Wish I’d Stayed was single of the week on the UK iTunes Store from December 22-28, 2009 and Ellie did the vocals for Starsmith’s remix of Passion Pit’s song Sleepyhead.
Lights and Bright Lights
Prior to the release of her debut studio album, Ellie Goulding won the BBC Sound of 2010, which showed critics, broadcasters and members of the music industry their top picks for rising stars the following year. She also won the Critics’ Choice Award at the Brit Awards 2010 which made her the second artist to win both awards in the same year.
The Lights album was released in March 2010, reaching number one on the UK Albums Chart and number twelve on the Irish Albums Chart4,5,6. Her singles, “Starry Eyed”, “Guns and Horses”, and “The Writer” reached numbers 4, 26, and 19 respectively. In August 2010 Ellie released a second extended play, Run Into the Light, a remixed version. by Lights. The album was supported by Nike and was released by Polydor as a soundtrack for runners, in an effort to make Goulding’s music appreciated by the national running subculture.
In November 2010, Lights was released as Bright Lights, with six new tracks. It was originally announced that Bright Lights’ flagship single would be the new version of his song Lights with a release date slated for November 1, 20108. However, this was dropped to allow for his original cover of “Your Song”. sung by Elton John, to be released alongside John Lewis’ Christmas 2010 commercial in the UK9. This single has become Goulding’s highest-peaked single yet, reaching number two on the UK Singles Chart10. Ellie will even sing it on the occasion of the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, on April 29, 2011. The song was also classified in the charts of certain European countries at the beginning of the year 201111. It also accompanies the credits from the film Love Lasts Three Years by Frédéric Beigbeder, released in 2012.
Goulding toured to promote Lights and also opened for Passion Pit in March 2010 and Manel ali youcefi during her UK tour in May 2010.12 During the summer she performed at several festivals. On May 29, she was at the Dot to Dot Festival in Bristol and on June 25 at the 40th annual Glastonbury Festival on the John Peel13 stage. His third EP is a live recording of part of his concert at the 2010 iTunes Festival14. The full concert was released later as part of the iTunes version of Bright Lights15. Ellie made her T in the Park debut on July 1116. She performed at the Nissan Juke Arena at the 2010 V Festival at the end of August17. In September, she was part of the Bestival 2010 on the Isle of Wight18. In support of her album in Europe, she performed on the first day of Pukkelpop 2010 in Belgium, at the Open’er Festival in Poland and at Benicàssim in Spain19. A track of Lights, “Everytime You Go”, appeared in Vampire Diaries, during the episode “Founder’s Day”, while “Your Biggest Mistake” appeared in an episode of The Boloss: Loser attitude20 and that we can hear her track “You, My Everything” in episode 2 of Skins Fire. Ellie began touring the US and Canada in February 2011 to coincide with the release of the US version of her album Lights21. She also played at Coachella. In 2013, she opened for Bruno Mars concerts. His song “Mirror” will appear in the soundtrack of Hunger Games: The Burning.
Ellie was in a relationship with TV and radio host Greg James from 2009 to 2011; the young woman even revealed that their relationship inspired her for her second album, Halcyon22.
