Caitlyn Jenner Marie is an American media personality born October 28, 1949 in Mount Kisco, New York. A trans woman who came out in 2015, Jenner was previously famous as a male athlete, a decathlon specialist in the 1970s as William Bruce Jenner, winning the gold medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal and improving three times in a row the world record of the discipline from 1975 to 1976.

Youth

Caitlyn Jenner was born on October 28, 1949 in Mount Kisco (New York). The child was born a boy and his parents – Esther R. McGuire and William Hugh Jenner, an arborist1,2 – named William Bruce3. The child, dyslexic4, has two sisters, Lisa and Pam, as well as a younger brother Burt who died in a car accident in Canton, Connecticut in 1976, shortly after the athlete’s success at the Olympic Games.

Studies

Caitlyn Jenner studied at Sleepy Hollow High School in Sleepy Hollow, New York 7.8 during her first two years of high school then at Newtown High School in Newtown and graduated in 19689.

He was awarded a football scholarship at Graceland College (now Graceland University) in Iowa, but due to a knee injury, the athlete had to give up football for the decathlon. L.D. Weldon, Graceland’s track coach and Jenner’s mentor, is the first to recognize his potential and encourages his student to continue in the decathlon. Jenner made her decathlon debut at the Drake Relays in Des Moines in 1970, placing fifth12 and graduating in 1973 with a degree in physical education from Graceland College.

Sporting career

The athlete took part in his first competition in 1970 during the Drake Relays in Des Moines, achieving a promising score of 6,991 points. In 1972 at Eugene, he placed third in the United States selection for the Olympic Games in Munich, in which he took tenth place in the final. Victim of a broken foot and an injury to a vertebra, he did not participate in any major competition during the year 1973.

In 1974, Caitlyn Jenner left Graceland University for San José State University in California, where he could train year round and benefit from the advice of reputable track coaches. In June, he won his first title at the United States Championships14. He then won the discus throw (50.04 m), and successively achieved 4.80 m in the pole vault and 68.52 m in the javelin throw. Assured of winning the Olympic title even before the start of the last event, Jenner finished the 1,500m in 4:12:06 (fifth personal best in the competition), finishing nearly a second behind Soviet Leonid Lytvynenko after delivering a final sprint in the last 300 meters. His performance of 8,618 points17 earned him a new world record in the discipline, the third achieved by the North American athlete in less than a year and a half. Guido Kratschmer is second overall with 8,411 points, Mykola Avilov is third with 8,369 points.

In 1977, he was selected by the Kansas City Kings for the NBA Draft, but would never play basketball professionally.

Television

In 1981, Caitlyn Jenner played the role of Officer Steve McLeish in the fifth season of the American television series CHiPs which aired on the NBC network.

Jenner appeared in 1985 as Zak Farrell in the sixteenth episode of the first season of Arabesque, titled Sudden Death.

In 2003, Jenner participated in I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! for the American chain ABC and finished in 4th place.

Jenner participated in 2005, on the American channel Fox, in Skating with Celebrities. Actress Kristy Swanson wins the game, while Jenner finishes in 3rd place.

As of 2007, Jenner starred on the American reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians alongside his ex-wife, stepdaughters Kourtney, Kim and Khloé Kardashian, stepson Robert Kardashian Jr and of his daughters Kendall and Kylie Jenner. The show has 18 seasons broadcast in France on the E! Channel.

Transition path

In December 2013, Caitlyn Jenner announced that she had made an appointment with a surgeon for a chondrolaryngoplasty27. Jenner denies her transidentity, declaring that she never liked her windpipe. The surgery took place in early 2014.

On April 24, 2015, Caitlyn Jenner declared, in an interview with ABC channel, that she was a transgender woman and wanted to start an administrative transition so that her identity was legally and officially recognized.
